A clash between masquerade worshippers in Nua community, Aku, Enugu State, resulted in the alleged death of a young man known as ‘Cross’ from Amankpo Umu-Ezike, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area.
The Divisional Police Officer of Igbo-Etiti Police Division, Chinedu Okike, and Aku residents were injured during the altercation.
Over a hundred locals were reportedly hospitalized due to the incident.

The confrontation unfolded as Odo masquerade worshippers visited Elu-Orie Nua for a customary farewell before its supposed departure to the spirit world on August 31, 2023.
While the procession encountered opposition from Nua village boys, the DPO was shot, prompting police intervention. A suspect named Mr. Kenneth was apprehended, and the injured were taken to various hospitals.
