Ondo State Mourns: Gov. Akeredolu Passes Away at 67 After Health Battle

The sudden demise of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has plunged the nation into mourning as the distinguished political figure succumbed to a prolonged battle with prostate cancer and leukemia.

Akeredolu, aged 67, breathed his last at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday while receiving medical care in a German hospital.

Akeredolu’s legacy spans a rich history of legal and political contributions. As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), his tenure as governor marked a period of significant development and transformation for Ondo State.

The governor’s health struggles led to public concern, especially when activities surrounding his wife Betty’s 70th birthday were suspended in July amid queries about the propriety of celebrations amidst her husband’s illness. Betty, in a statement on social media, announced the postponement of the festivities due to unforeseen circumstances, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused.
