The deputy governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is facing a potential impeachment by the state House of Assembly due to allegations of gross misconduct.
A reliable source has disclosed that some lawmakers have already signed an impeachment notice against the deputy governor.
This development follows an emergency plenary session convened by the assembly leadership, which was accompanied by a significant presence of security operatives at the Assembly gate.

The source revealed that Aiyedatiwa is under investigation for alleged gross misuse of office. Specifically, during his tenure as the acting governor during Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s medical vacation in Germany, he purportedly approved the expenditure of N300 million for the purchase of a bulletproof SUV for his personal use.
It is alleged that the funds were sourced from the Palliative fund, which the Federal government had provided to the state to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
The governor had previously dismissed all media aides attached to the deputy governor over allegations of insubordination, which had fueled rumors of an impending impeachment.

However, it’s worth noting that the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, and the Majority Leader, Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, have both denied the existence of an impeachment plot. They stated that they were focused on legislative duties and urged the public to ignore such speculations.
In response to earlier rumors of his resignation, Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa issued a statement denying any intention to resign. He reaffirmed his commitment to his role and his loyalty to Governor Akeredolu, emphasizing that he would fulfill his full four-year term.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the allegations against the deputy governor will lead to formal impeachment proceedings or if the matter will be resolved through other means.
