Omokri Advocates ‘Buy Nigeria’ Campaign to Revitalize Nigerian Economy , Strengthen the Naira

In a series of impassioned tweets, social commentator Reno Omokri has called on Nigerians to prioritize Nigerian-made goods and services as a means to bolster the nation’s economy and strengthen the value of the Naira.

Citing the influence of South African conglomerates and foreign companies on the Nigerian economy, Omokri underscored the potential impact of supporting locally-owned businesses.

Quoted statement from Reno Omokri’s Twitter handle (@renoomokri): “It does not matter who won the #NigerianElections2023. So long as MTN Nigeria Limited, DSTV, South African Breweries (SAB miller), Stanbic Merchant Bank, and other South African conglomerates in Nigeria are repatriating their profits back home, is as long as the Nigerian Naira will continue to nosedive in value.”

Omokri emphasized that the value of the Naira is directly linked to the price of petrol, as Nigeria heavily relies on fuel imports. He urged Nigerians to consider the broader implications of their consumer choices, stating that supporting Nigerian-owned companies like Globacom Nigeria Limited could have an immediate positive impact on the Naira’s value.

Quoted statement from Reno Omokri’s Twitter handle (@renoomokri): “Every time you use an MTN line instead of a Glo SIM to make a call, you are literally saying, ‘South Africa deserves my money better than Nigeria.’ And the next day, you will come on social media and wail about the value of the Naira and blame the government.”

Encouraging citizens to be patriotic and prioritize Nigerian products and services, Omokri urged against using foreign-owned telecom services, banking with foreign banks, or opting for non-Nigerian brands in various sectors. He stressed that supporting local industries and businesses could lead to a stronger Naira and a more robust economy.

Quoted statement from Reno Omokri’s Twitter handle (@renoomokri): “The only way the Naira will rise in value is if we, as Nigerians, make a deliberate effort to buy Nigeria.”

Omokri also advocated for Nigerians to patronize Nigerian airlines, particularly Air Peace, as a means of circulating revenue and profits within the country, which can boost their purchasing power.

Taking his advocacy further, Omokri suggested that officials and civil servants involved in contracts with the Federal Government should be compelled to fly Nigerian airlines on routes where domestic carriers operate. This measure, he argued, would help stimulate the local aviation industry and drive economic growth.

While acknowledging the challenging economic circumstances Nigeria currently faces, Omokri stressed that a collective effort to embrace the “Buy Nigeria” campaign could lead to positive changes and serve as a foundation for the nation’s economic revival.

As Nigerians consider the call for greater support of locally-made products and services, the words of Reno Omokri highlight the significance of consumer choices in shaping the country’s economic future and reinforcing the value of the Naira.
