The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, on Tuesday offered scholarship to 59 Ebonyi State indigenes to pursue Ph.D and Masters’ degree programmes in some selected courses at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT.
Speaking during their courtesy visit on ESUT Management, the leader of Ebonyi State Scholarship Board, Prof. Humphrey Nwobashi stressed on the mandate from Governor Nwifuru to the Board to process full time scholarship award covering tuition, accommodation and feeding to 700 Ph.D and M. Sc. Ebonyi indigenous students in Nigerian Universities with emphasis on ESUT, UNN, EBSU , FUNAI, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and others in the South East as catchment areas.
Prof. Nwobashi, an alumnus of ESUT who came in company of James Ndieze also listed the 11 courses that would merit the scholarship to include Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Science, Computer Engineering, Pharmacy, Soft Ware Development.
Others include Automobile Engineering, Robotic Engineering etc, noting that the scholarship board has allotted 59 scholarship slots to ESUT students.
He therefore requested the University Management to furnish his team with the number of courses obtainable in ESUT out of the 11 listed courses with assurance of adequate personnel and cost implications to enable the execution of their assignment on schedule.
Professor Nwobashi further stated that 300 postgraduate students would also be sponsored by the Ebonyi State Government to pursue courses of interest in other foreign universities.
He however informed the ESUT Management that Governor Nwifuru, would discontinue payment of tuition fees for any student who overstays beyond the stipulated period of the programme.
While lauding the efforts of the Governor, the ESUT Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, said that the Ebonyi State Government has impressive record of human capacity developments and funding of academic researches.
The Vice Chancellor equally appreciated the Scholarship Board for the passion and commitment they have shown in their responsibilities, assuring that ESUT Management would ensure quality education and consistency in running of their programmmes.
He further said that the dream of the present Management is to make ESUT a global university, adding that the institution would remain competitive in line with the modern intellectual framework.
The Dean of Postgraduate School, ESUT, Professor Charles Chime, and ESUT Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu, commended the Ebonyi State Government and assured of adequate management of both the staff and students of the postgraduate school to ensure timely graduation of students.
