In a significant move aimed at reinforcing security measures in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has officially launched the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
This initiative, designed to enhance the security landscape, is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), the FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, Anti-kidnapping Section, and other State Commands.
As a testament to the effectiveness of the newly established Special Intervention Squad, sixteen (16) notorious criminals have been apprehended, and a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, including a general-purpose machine gun (GPMG), has been recovered.

Among the paraded suspects were three (3) individuals – Idris Ishaku (27 years old), Bala Umar (27 years old), and Dahiru Salisu (27 years old) – based in Bwari. These suspects were linked to a series of armed robberies and kidnappings in the Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

- The Squad’s achievements also include thwarting a kidnapping plot through technical intelligence, leading to the arrest of the aforementioned Bwari-based kidnappers. In a proactive operation, police operatives rescued a victim who was abducted along with his Hilux Van, and N500,000 was fraudulently transferred from his account. One suspect, Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael, was apprehended, while three others escaped.
Furthermore, the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team intercepted Everest Magaji, a gunrunner, during negotiations with notorious bandits for the purchase and supply of illicit firearms and ammunition. The operation resulted in the recovery of eleven (11) pistols and two (2) pump-action guns.
