Sarah Storey Set for Ninth Paralympic Games, Inspired by Family

Sarah Storey, Britain’s most decorated Paralympian, is gearing up for her ninth Games in Paris this month, fueled by the support of her young children. With 28 medals, including 17 golds, spanning cycling and swimming since her debut in 1992, Storey is a dominant force in Paralympic sport.

Despite a severe crash in 2022 that delayed her return to top form, Storey is now a strong contender for more medals. Her children, Louisa and Charlie, will be cheering her on from the sidelines, providing an extra boost as she aims to defend her road race and time trial titles.

Storey, who began competing in the Paralympics at just 14, has dominated the C5 category road time trials since 2008. Her determination to compete in Paris was partly driven by the chance to experience a “normal” Games atmosphere after the disruptions of Tokyo.

At 46, Storey will be one of the older athletes in Team GB’s cycling squad, which includes rising star Archie Atkinson and Olympic champions Neil and Lora Fachie. Although focusing solely on road events this year, Storey’s success could see her rise to the fourth-most successful Paralympian of all time.

Looking ahead, Storey remains open to the possibility of competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Games, though she has yet to make any definitive decisions. For now, she remains focused on achieving more success in Paris.
