Nollywood Mourns as Veteran Actor Mr Ibu Passes Away at 62

In a heartbreaking turn of events, veteran actor John Okarfor, also known as Mr. Ibu, has passed away. The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, is in grief. The 62-year-old comedian’s death at Evercare Hospital shocked and saddened his colleagues and admirers.

Emeka Rollas, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), confirmed the tragic news and expressed her sincere condolences for the death.

The late performer, who was well-known for his humorous parts, made a big contribution to Nigerian entertainment. Several admirers have expressed their condolences on social media and reminisced about the iconic films in which Mr. Ibu displayed his extraordinary talent.

The actor had a cardiac arrest, according to Mr. Don Single Nwuzor, Mr. Ibu’s manager of 24 years. His relatives have not yet released a statement to the public, and the circumstances of his death are still unknown. This devastating announcement comes just one day after another Nollywood loss: Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, passed away.

Since October 2023, Mr. Ibu had been battling health issues, requiring numerous surgeries that finally resulted in the amputation of his limb. Even though he had health issues, his family started posting updates in November that showed improvement.

The well-known comedian and charismatic performer had experienced hardship in the past. He stated in 2019 that his kinsmen had poisoned him because they were envious of his successful profession. In May 2022, Mr. Ibu made similar claims about poisoning and emphasized that his enemies had tried to kill him. He persevered in keeping his strong spirit despite these difficulties.

The news of Mr. Ibu’s departure has created a vacuum in the Nollywood scene, and well-known people’s condolences are still coming in. The seasoned actor will be remembered for his lasting influence and comedic genius, and his legacy endures thanks to his contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
