The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has taken a strong stance by suspending its candidate in the February 25 presidential election, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, due to alleged anti-party activities.
The BoT also suspended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party and appointed new national officers to fill the positions.
Dr. Agbo Major has been appointed as the acting National Chairman, and Mr. Ogini Olaposi as the acting National Secretary, along with 18 others. This suspension will remain in effect for six months, as decided by members of the party during a special general assembly at the Rockview Hotels in Apapa.

The decision follows accusations that Kwankwaso engaged in unauthorized political discussions with various figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi. These actions were deemed in violation of the party’s constitution, leading to his suspension and the nullification of the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with certain movements and associations.
Speaking on behalf of the BoT, Secretary Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi expressed that the suspension was a necessary step to address Kwankwaso’s breach of party protocol. The new acting chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, affirmed his commitment to restoring unity within the party and maintaining its people-oriented ideology.
The special general assembly meeting, attended by the newly appointed NWC members and representatives from across the country, reflects the NNPP’s determination to uphold party discipline and safeguard its integrity.
