It is noteworthy that the NLC had previously announced their plans to stage a protest in Imo State commencing on November 1, 2023.
Their protest was motivated by concerns regarding alleged infringements on workers’ rights and benefits by the State government. Comrade Ajaero articulated their frustration with the consistent violation of agreements by the Imo State Government, prompting them to organize extensive protests and industrial actions to highlight the ongoing disregard for workers’ rights in the state.
These violations encompassed unpaid salaries, with some employees enduring up to 20 months without compensation, as well as the unfair classification of workers as ‘ghost workers,’ impacting approximately 11,000 individuals who diligently fulfilled their job responsibilities.
