The Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Wura-Ola Adepoju, has raised a concern regarding uncollected passport booklets, revealing that a staggering 112,351 passport booklets are still awaiting collection by applicants across all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This revelation was made during a press briefing held at the Service headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
As of October 5, 2023, Mrs. Adepoju disclosed that despite efforts to clear a backlog of passport applications, a significant number of booklets remain unclaimed.

The NIS had previously been grappling with a backlog of 204,332 passport applications, which they managed to address within the two-week deadline set by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Mrs. Adepoju stated, “To date, 91,981 passport booklets have been successfully collected by applicants. However, a concerning 112,351 booklets are still awaiting collection.”
In light of this situation, the head of the NIS urged applicants who have pending passport booklets to promptly visit their respective application centers for collection. This call to action is essential to ensure that individuals receive their travel documents promptly and efficiently.
The unclaimed passport booklets not only pose an administrative challenge but also impact the travel plans of applicants who require these documents for various purposes, including international travel, business, and personal matters.
The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to streamlining its operations and improving service delivery to the citizens. Applicants are encouraged to heed the call and retrieve their passport booklets to avoid any further inconvenience.
As the NIS works diligently to serve the public, the cooperation of applicants in collecting their passport booklets is vital in ensuring a smoother and more efficient passport issuance process across Nigeria.
