Nine Northern Governors Attend US Symposium on Security

Nine governors from Northern Nigeria are currently in the United States to participate in a security symposium organized by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP).

Led by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, the delegation comprises governors from states grappling with security challenges such as Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Plateau.

The three-day event, running from April 23 to April 25, aims to develop comprehensive solutions addressing the root causes of instability in Northern Nigeria. According to Sunusi Bature, Governor Yusuf’s communications director, the symposium will provide the governors with insights into the complex dynamics of security threats, socio-economic factors, and opportunities for promoting stability in the region.

Additionally, the USIP intends to explore strategies for engaging armed groups in nonviolent approaches to conflict resolution, thus enhancing conflict prevention efforts in the area.

Dr. Joseph Sany, Vice President of the Africa Center for US Institute of Peace, will lead discussions on policy coordination and peace management in Nigeria during the strategic engagement.
