Nigeria’s First Lady Donates $100,000 to Healthcare Initiative in Sierra Leone

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has honored her commitment to support Nigerians in Diaspora, Sierra Leone Chapter (NIDO, SL) in their healthcare delivery efforts. She has donated $100,000 towards the establishment of a first-class medical center for Nigerians residing in Sierra Leone.

This generous contribution fulfills her promise to assist in constructing a medical facility that will cater to the health needs of over 40,000 Nigerians living in Sierra Leone. The NIDO Medical Centre, once completed, aims to address the urgent healthcare challenges faced by the Nigerian community in Sierra Leone and complement the ongoing efforts of President Julius Maada Bio to strengthen the nation’s health sector.

The initiative began during Senator Tinubu’s visit to Sierra Leone on November 19, 2023, where she met with members of Nigerians in Diaspora, Sierra Leone, during the commemoration of the UN World Day. The pressing need for a medical center was brought to her attention by NIDO President in Sierra Leone, Engineer Abiodun Oyebola, who highlighted the deteriorating state of healthcare facilities in the country.

The Renewed Hope Initiative, the humanitarian project led by Senator Tinubu, facilitated this significant contribution. The donation underscores a substantial boost to the healthcare sector in Sierra Leone, grappling with the aftermath of a civil war, the Ebola crisis, and the recent challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
