Nigerian Navy to Establish Operational Base in Enugu to Enhance Security

In a move to bolster the security of lives and property in Enugu State’s coastal areas, the Nigerian Navy has announced plans to establish an operational base within the region.

Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of the Naval Staff, made this revelation during a recent courtesy visit to Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah at the Government House.

The proposed operational base aims to extend the Nigerian Navy’s presence and activities to cover a broader spectrum of Enugu State. Vice Admiral Ogalla emphasized the significance of safeguarding the navigable river around Uzo Uwani, which once served as a seaport during the colonial era but has since been underutilized. The establishment of the base is expected to enhance security measures in the region, boost economic activities, and encourage investment in the development of the abandoned seaway.

During the meeting, Governor Mbah reiterated the vital role that security and peace play in driving economic growth and development. He expressed his commitment to fostering an ongoing partnership between Enugu State and the Nigerian Navy, as well as other security agencies, to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the region’s residents.

Vice Admiral Ogalla commended Governor Mbah’s proactive approach to addressing security challenges since assuming office. He outlined the Nigerian Navy’s primary responsibilities, including safeguarding territorial integrity, performing policing duties, and fulfilling diplomatic roles.

The establishment of the operational base aligns with the Nigerian Navy’s mission to provide internal security operations through area surveillance and patrols. This initiative is poised to create an environment in which economic activities can thrive without hindrance, promoting the overall growth of Enugu State.
