Nigerian Navy to Establish Operational Base in Enugu

The Nigerian Navy has announced plans to establish an operational base in Enugu State, aimed at bolstering security and safeguarding the state’s coastal regions.

Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff, revealed this during a visit to Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, at the Government House on Thursday.

Simultaneously, Enugu State Government has pledged a continuous collaborative effort with the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies to enhance security and peace within the state. This partnership aligns with the state administration’s vision of robust economic growth.

Vice Admiral Ogalla commended Governor Mbah’s swift actions in addressing security concerns since taking office, expressing his admiration for the quick progress achieved.

He further explained the multiple roles of the Nigerian Navy, encompassing protection of the country’s maritime boundaries, policing duties, and diplomatic responsibilities.

Ogalla highlighted the need to extend policing functions to Enugu State, particularly the Uzo-Uwani area, which was once a navigable river and seaport during colonial times.

By securing this region, the Navy aims to instill investor confidence and spur development.

Governor Mbah welcomed Vice Admiral Ogalla and expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing an Enugu native to a significant security position. He emphasized the importance of security and peace in promoting investment, living standards, and tourism in Enugu.
