In a significant development, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with various security agencies, has executed a series of operations aimed at dismantling the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Concurrently, the Army successfully disrupted a gunrunner syndicate. These operations unfolded in Enugu State and Cross River State, yielding substantial outcomes. This information was conveyed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, through the official Twitter handle of the Nigerian Army (@HQNigerianArmy).
Troops from the 82 Division Nigerian Army, operating within the purview of Operation UDO KA II, partnered with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security entities to conduct a comprehensive raid on the suspected hideouts of IPOB and ESN in Imufu, situated in the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State. During this operation, two armed insurgents were neutralized, and three Semi Automatic Pump Action Rifles, along with a locally fabricated single-barrel gun, were successfully recovered.

In a separate yet equally significant operation, troops, in tandem with DSS operatives, apprehended a notorious ESN Commander named Mr Ezege. This arrest transpired in Obinagu, located in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. Notably, this particular ESN Commander had previously issued threats to unleash violence in Enugu State, using a viral video and audio message disseminated across social media platforms. The arrested individual is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
Further amplifying the Army’s resolve, troops belonging to the 130 Battalion, operating under the 13 Brigade Area of Responsibility within the 82 Division Nigerian Army, collaborated with DSS personnel to effectively dismantle a well-known syndicate involved in illegal gunrunning activities. This operation was conducted at the Obudu motorcycle park, situated in the Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State. Consequently, the leader of this gunrunning syndicate, along with two Nigerians and two Cameroonians who were accomplices, were apprehended. Preliminary inquiries have unveiled that the syndicate procured firearms, which were subsequently sold to an intermediary. This intermediary then supplied the acquired arms and ammunition to Ambazonian Separatists based in the Republic of Cameroon.
Continuing its unwavering commitment to national security, the Nigerian Army urges the general public to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities to relevant security agencies. Moreover, the Army calls upon the residents of the South East region to disregard any illegal sit-at-home directives, asserting that operations aimed at countering any such attempts will persist.
