Birnin Gwari Operation
On October 17, 2023, troops from the 2 Battalion, acting on actionable intelligence, carried out an ambush in the Udowa general area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area in Kaduna State. During the operation, Nigerian soldiers engaged marauding insurgents in a fierce firefight, resulting in the neutralization of three insurgents. Several others managed to escape. The troops recovered a bandolier containing 111 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, two motorcycles, one set of high-frequency communication radios, and two mobile phones. Tragically, one soldier paid the ultimate sacrifice during the encounter.

Zamfara State Interception
On the same day, troops from the 1 Brigade, while conducting a stop-and-search operation in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area in Zamfara State, intercepted a suspected ammunition courier. Preliminary investigations revealed that the individual was on a mission to deliver ammunition to a bandit leader known as Gishiri. Vigilant troops seized a bag containing 224 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one mobile phone, and a sum of four thousand naira (₦4,000). The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing further investigations.
North East Theatre Surrender
In a significant development, a notorious Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) Commander, identified as Bulama Bukar, voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 5 Brigade in Gubio within the North East theatre of operations. Prior to his surrender, Bulama Bukar served as the commander of the BHT Camp Tapkin Chad at Gilima village in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State. Following his surrender, troops recovered an array of items from the former Boko Haram commander, including one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 44 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one magazine carrier jacket, one knife, one motorcycle, and the sum of twenty-three thousand, five hundred naira (₦23,500). Bulama Bukar is currently undergoing profiling sessions as part of the ongoing investigations.
