In a demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to fostering strong community ties and developmental initiatives, a remodelled Civic Center in Amaeke Item, situated in the Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, was formally commissioned on August 11, 2023.
The ceremony was officiated by Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, representing Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who was unable to attend.
The event showcased the Nigerian Army’s dedication to Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Special Intervention Projects, aimed at promoting collaboration between the military and civilian communities for mutual growth and development.

The Civic Center’s commissioning was graced by several dignitaries, including Air Vice Marshal Emmanuel Chukwu Rtd, representing the Special Guest of Honour. He echoed the sentiments of unity and heritage, urging for the establishment of a military presence and a Command Secondary School in Amaeke Item. This, he noted, would strengthen the bond between the community and the military.
The initiative behind the remodelled Civic Center was attributed to Major General Gold Chibuisi, the Theatre Commander Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK). Major General Chibuisi acknowledged the Nigerian Army’s commitment to community development through CIMIC projects and expressed gratitude for the recognition and support his ancestral home received.
The ceremony witnessed the participation of Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, represented by Navy Commander Uba MacDonald Rtd. Governor Otti lauded the Nigerian Army’s long-standing relationship with Amaeke Item and commended their efforts to enhance community infrastructure.
Taraba State government representative Dr. Jeji Williams emphasized the harmonious relationship between Amaeke Item and Taraba State, promising its continuation.
Chieftaincy titles were conferred upon several distinguished personalities in recognition of their contributions to the community. Notable among them were Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, conferred as Dike Namba 1 of Amaeke Item; Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, honored as Dike Di Ohanma of Amaeke Item; Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika, named Obatta Obie 1 of Amaeke Item; and Air Vice Marshal Emmanuel Chukwu Rtd, recognized as Ebube Dike 1 of Amaeke Item.
The event was marked by vibrant cultural displays, as the community celebrated its rich heritage. The commissioning of the remodelled Civic Center, guided tours of the facility, and group photographs further added to the memorable occasion.
Prominent personalities in attendance included Major General NC Ogbu, Chief Civil Military Cooperation; Brigadier General Nsikak Edet, Commander 14 Brigade; Mrs. Nafeesat Dada, Chairperson 82 Division Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA); Mrs. Joy Chibuisi; senior officers from 82 Division Nigerian Army, both serving and retired; members of NAOWA; distinguished guests; friends; and well-wishers of the Amaeke Item community.
