Nigerian Army Elevates 47 Senior Officers, Urges Vigilance in Addressing Security Challenges

The Nigerian Army commemorated the elevation of 47 senior officers to the rank of Major General, underscoring the imperative for heightened efforts in tackling security challenges confronting the nation.

The promotion, approved by the Army Council on December 21, witnessed the elevation of 75 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier General.

At the decoration ceremony held across units and formations, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, commended the officers, hailing their years of dedication and commitment to national service. He lauded their exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and unwavering commitment throughout their careers.

Matawalle emphasized the officers’ invaluable contributions, urging them to serve with honor, distinction, and to serve as exemplary leaders inspiring others to follow suit. He emphasized the pivotal role they play in the fight against insecurity, particularly in the North West and other regions.

Addressing the newly decorated officers, Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, congratulated them, recognizing their promotion as a testament to their diligence and commitment. He stressed the military’s intolerance toward incompetence, urging the officers to give their best, especially now that they are involved in policy formulation within the military ranks.

Lagbaja underscored the importance of logical and objective professional dealings, aligning with his command philosophy. He encouraged those who did not receive promotions to take it as motivation to strive harder in the future.

The COAS also pointed out the weight of responsibility that comes with the new rank, reminding them of the accountability they hold within the system. He extended gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for guidance and support, reiterating the army’s unwavering loyalty to the constituted authority.

In response, Maj.-Gen. Gideon Ajetunmobi, representing the newly promoted officers, expressed gratitude to the President for authorizing their elevation. Ajetunmobi also appreciated the President’s support in transforming the army into a well-trained and motivated force.

He affirmed the officers’ unwavering commitment to the Nigerian Army and the nation at large, pledging dedication to their responsibilities in the service of the country.
