Nigeria will be a Key Player in the G20, Says Tinubu

In an address at the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, President Bola Tinubu expressed Nigeria‘s commitment to becoming a significant player within the G20 group.

He emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to contribute to shaping a more equitable world and urged global unity and cooperation in addressing pressing challenges, fostering inclusivity, and establishing a fairer global order.

President Tinubu acknowledged the crucial role of the G20 in shaping a rules-based world order that promotes shared prosperity and security, highlighting that many of today’s critical issues require international cooperation. He stressed the importance of stronger collaboration, cooperation, and partnerships among diverse regions for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable global future.

The President emphasized that such rules and global governance structures should be collectively designed, owned, and managed, in line with the spirit of a united global family. Nigeria, he affirmed, is poised and willing to play a major role within the G20, contributing to the creation of a new world order that is fair and rules-based.

President Tinubu congratulated India for hosting the historic summit and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, noting India’s successful lunar mission.

Regarding the African Union’s inclusion in the G20, President Tinubu welcomed the decision, emphasizing its potential to reflect the relative balance of power and inclusiveness in the global family.

Under the summit’s theme, “One Earth. One Family. One Future,” President Tinubu highlighted the interconnectedness of global affairs and the need for collaborative efforts. He called for addressing challenges related to technology, energy transition, access to credit, and the growing socio-economic divide.
