The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning in response to widespread allegations of irregularities and corruption surrounding the recently released list of selected applicants for the ongoing 2022–2023 police constable recruitment process.
According to Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the published list has been marred by multiple anomalies that demand immediate attention.
“Numerous names purportedly belonging to successful candidates actually belong to individuals who did not participate in the recruitment process or even apply,” Adejobi stated in a press release on Saturday.

He further highlighted that the list includes names of applicants who were medically unfit, failed the computer-based exam, or did not pass the physical screening. More alarmingly, Adejobi mentioned allegations of financial transactions and unethical practices influencing the selection of unfit and unqualified candidates.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation in a letter to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission on June 10. Despite the IGP’s concerns, Adejobi clarified that the Police Service Commission retains the authority, affirmed by the Supreme Court, to oversee police officer recruitment. However, this authority does not extend to hiring individuals who are unfit or lack the requisite skills for police duties.
Adejobi emphasized the Police Force’s stance on ensuring transparency and credibility in the recruitment process. “The Police have distanced themselves from the published list and demand a thorough and reputable review of the recruitment procedures,” he asserted. He underlined the commitment of the Police to uphold standards that ensure only qualified, competent, trainable, and productive individuals are recruited into the Nigeria Police Force.
In conclusion, Adejobi assured the public of the Police Force’s dedication to scrutinizing the recruitment procedure meticulously to uphold its integrity and efficacy, aligning with the reform initiatives envisioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for the police force.
The Nigeria Police Force’s response underscores its resolve to address concerns of corruption and irregularities in the recruitment process, aiming to enhance the professionalism and effectiveness of the force in serving the nation.
