He also said ”It would be recalled that the Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture (HMML) is the flagship bi-annual lecture of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. By a special resolution of the Faculty Board made at its meeting of October 5, 1978, the Board established a bi-annual Memorial Lecture series to be known as “The Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture” (HMML).
”The Lecture was established in honour of Herbert Heelas Macaulay; the father of Nigerian nationalism, who trained and practiced as an engineer, architect and surveyor, when there was very little distinction between these disciplines. The HMML is also used to honour lecturers, whom in many cases, must have made outstanding contributions to national development through engineering, just as the late Herbert Macaulay did.
” Some of the past lecturers at the HMML include: Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo (Rtd.), Engr. Dr. Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Engr. Maj. Gen. Mamman Kotangora (Rtd.), His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule and a host of other prominent and philanthropic Nigerians.”
He said that the highlight of the Lecture would feature Gown Meets Town (3rd & 4th May) – Technical Exhibition of practical projects of staff and students of the Faculty of Engineering and interested private/public sector companies and organisations, with products and services relevant to sustainable economic growth; Technical Symposium and Panel Discussion (3rd May, morning hours); Alumni Homecoming Events (3rd May, afternoon/evening); and Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture (4th May).
