In a series of successful operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria has made significant seizures of explosives and illicit drugs, along with the arrest of individuals involved in drug-related activities. Here are the highlights of these recent actions:
Explosives Seized: NDLEA operatives made a substantial discovery, confiscating 399 improvised explosive devices from a 39-year-old individual named Asana Leke. The suspect claimed to have received these explosives in Ibadan, Oyo State, with instructions to deliver them to an undisclosed recipient in Kaduna. Authorities subsequently transferred both the suspect and the explosives to military authorities in Niger State.
Interceptions of Illicit Substances: The NDLEA’s vigilance extended to intercepting several shipments of illicit substances. Notably, they seized 20 kilograms of skunk cleverly concealed within tomato paste containers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja. Additionally, a 1.60-kilogram shipment of methamphetamine was apprehended at a courier company in Lagos. The agency also thwarted an attempt to import 556 grams of Canadian Loud from Canada to Lagos.

During the operation, they recovered an impressive 1,101 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud. While three suspects were arrested, the primary kingpin remains at large.
Cannabis Farm Destruction: Taking a proactive approach, the NDLEA moved to destroy a large 4.236347-hectare cannabis plantation located in the Ekudo forest within Onwude Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Arrest of Drug Traffickers: Law enforcement efforts yielded numerous arrests across various locations. Of note were the seizure of over 426.5 kilograms of skunk on Zaria-Kano Road and the apprehension of a suspect in Anambra State found in possession of 64.8 kilograms of skunk and Tramadol.
Grandmother Arrest: In a surprising development, a 60-year-old woman identified as Mrs. Eunice Egwehide was taken into custody in Edo State after being found with 17 kilograms of skunk.
Capture of Wanted Kingpin: Following an extensive two-month surveillance operation, NDLEA operatives successfully apprehended a wanted kingpin named Idoko Ifesinachi, aged 40. Ifesinachi was linked to the importation of 76.9 kilograms of Canadian Loud, which had been intercepted in a container at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex. He was arrested at his hideout in Lagos and subsequently transferred to Port Harcourt.
These operations underscore the NDLEA’s continued commitment to combating drug-related crimes, including trafficking and cultivation, and their dedication to addressing emerging threats such as the possession and transportation of explosives.
