NDLEA Seizes 1,960kg of ‘Ghanaian Loud’ at Lagos Beach, Nigeria – Six Foreigners Arrested

In a significant operation on December 24, 2024, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria intercepted two boats laden with 1,960 kilograms of cannabis, commonly known as ‘Ghanaian Loud,’ at Eleko Beach in the Lekki area of Lagos. The drugs, smuggled from Ghana via waterways, were concealed in large parcels, a typical method for trafficking illicit substances.

Six foreign nationals were apprehended during the operation: two Ghanaians—Godsway John (38) and Freedom Kelvin (33)—and four Beninese nationals: Chegoun Hounsou (23), Gadabor Nyameto (47), Adantg Sasa (34), and Ayao Kayivi (21). The NDLEA’s Marine Command executed the interception as part of a concerted effort to combat drug trafficking along Nigeria’s coastline.

In a separate incident, on December 22, 2024, 48-year-old businessman Orizu Arthur was arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Arthur attempted to board an Air France flight to Paris but was flagged for refusing a body scan. Subsequent observation led to the discovery of 74 wraps of Class A drugs, which he had ingested over seven days. Arthur claimed he was promised 3,000 Euros for delivering the drugs to Paris.

These operations underscore the NDLEA’s ongoing commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and preventing the spread of illegal substances across Nigeria. The agency continues to urge the public to provide valuable information to aid in its efforts.
