The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been compelled to address allegations of recruiting underaged individuals into its ranks, following a public outcry sparked by a photograph of a new recruit.
The controversial image was taken during the passing out parade of 2,500 NDLEA officers and raised concerns among Nigerians who questioned the recruit’s age.
In its response, the NDLEA strongly refuted the allegations, defending its recruitment procedures and emphasizing that such claims amounted to “body-shaming.” The agency clarified that the recruit in question met the academic and age requirements for the Narcotic Assistant II cadre. These requirements include possessing a secondary school certificate and being at least 18 years old.
