Murtala Muhammed International Airport to be Shut Down – Minister of Aviation

In a move to facilitate essential maintenance work, Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has issued a directive requiring all international airlines to vacate the premises of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) by October 1, 2023.

This decision is aimed at providing the necessary space and resources for comprehensive maintenance efforts at the airport.

The directive was made public during a visit to the international airport in Lagos, where the minister was accompanied by Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed, the representative of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Keyamo’s directive indicates a pivotal step towards ensuring the optimal functioning and safety of the airport’s facilities.

During his comments on the sidelines of the airport tour, the minister emphasized the importance of the impending relocation. He urged all international airlines and associated companies operating within the airport premises to move to the new terminal, MMIA Terminal 2. This strategic move is expected to streamline operations and facilitate the execution of the necessary maintenance work.

In conjunction with the directive to vacate the airport, Minister Keyamo also announced the suspension of all contracts, projects, and concessions within the aviation sector until further notice.
