In a bold move to enhance transparency and accountability within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the agency’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has issued a directive requiring all EFCC employees to promptly declare their assets. This directive aligns with civil service regulations and established procedures.
Mr. Olukoyede made this announcement on October 24, 2023, during an address to senior EFCC staff at the agency’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja. He emphasized the critical role that maintaining high ethical standards plays in the fight against corruption.
The Executive Chairman stated, “All of us are going to declare our assets, from level 17 downward. I have done mine, so there’s no reason for anyone to be hesitant. Even the Commission Secretary has complied. It is essential for all of us to take this step. We will declare our assets, and we will subject them to scrutiny. As anti-corruption fighters, our hands must remain untarnished, and thus, we must declare our assets.”

Furthermore, the EFCC’s chief urged staff to focus on their core mission of combating economic and financial crimes, with the goal of contributing to the nation’s economic growth, fostering an environment conducive to increased investments, and strengthening the country’s economic foundations.
Olukoyede stated, “We must do our job to add value to the nation. Investors must have confidence in the economy, and we must help ensure that the country is governed in an accountable and transparent manner. By doing so, we will offer a new direction in restoring the nation’s image.”
The Executive Chairman also underscored the importance of professionalism, thoroughness, integrity, and non-partisanship among the Commission’s employees. He stressed the need for a clean and well-organized working environment.
He emphasized, “Please, I implore you to maintain clean hands and put our house in order. While not everyone may agree with me, I am determined to do what is right and treat everyone equally, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or region.”
Olukoyede assured EFCC staff of enhanced welfare, advanced training, and equal opportunities, all aimed at increasing overall productivity. He warned against compromising their roles or positions, as such actions will lead to severe consequences.
The EFCC’s chief highlighted the agency’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law as a fundamental and enduring guiding principle.
“The EFCC is established by law, and we must perform our duties in accordance with the law. This is an internationally recognized standard, and we are determined to make it our norm,” he concluded.
