In a recent turn of events, renowned Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has undergone a series of medical procedures, including the amputation of one of his legs.
Emeka Chochoo, Mr Ibu’s former manager, exclusively shared insights into the actor’s health struggles, shedding light on the reasons behind the unexpected amputation.
Chochoo, who has known Mr Ibu for almost a decade, revealed that the amputation was necessary due to a severe infection in the arteries near the ankle. Unfortunately, the infection stayed undiagnosed until it had progressed to a severe level, needing urgent measures to protect the actor’s health.

“I stayed with him until yesterday. “He is responding well to treatment; he is gradually healing,” Chochoo said over the phone.
The former manager went on to describe Mr Ibu’s medical experience, adding that doctors have been addressing numerous health conditions one by one. The infection affecting one of the arteries in the ankle, preventing appropriate blood flow, led to the decision to amputate.
“The physicians are treating everything one by one. An infection that damaged one of the arteries near the ankle caused the amputation of one of his legs. The lack of blood flow into the limb was not identified in time. “By then, it was too late, and the doctors had decided on amputation,” Chochoo added.
Notably, all of the surgeries, including the amputation, took place in Nigeria. Chochoo did, however, reveal that Mr Ibu will be transferred abroad for additional treatment to ensure a full recovery.
