Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, recently sent a severe message to the heads of his ministry’s aviation organizations.
During a meeting, he emphasized the need of their support and cooperation, citing a performance bond inked with President Bola Tinubu’s administration. “I’d rather have you fired than lose my job,” Keyamo said.
He described a three-day retreat with President Tinubu that included the signing of performance bonds. He highlighted that the bonds signified a shared commitment to the nation’s economic restoration and a shift away from excessive borrowing, with the goal of combating unemployment, achieving economic growth, and ending poverty.

Speaking directly to the CEOs of the aviation agencies, Keyamo stressed the industry’s competitive nature, adding, “On this side, it’s either I get fired or they get fired.” As a result, it’s a competition to see who will survive.” He advocated a joint effort to make Nigeria’s aviation sector world-class and match Nigerians’ and stakeholders’ aspirations.
The instruction issued by Keyamo indicates the government’s resolve to prioritize performance and quality in its agencies, with a strong emphasis on accountability and measurable results.
