Enzo Maresca Urges Chelsea to Avoid Unnecessary Signings Amid Transfer Rush
Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, has cautioned against signing players without purpose, urging the club to focus on quality over quantity as the transfer window draws to a close. While Chelsea has been on a summer spending spree, bringing in 10 new players, Maresca emphasized that further additions should only be made if they strengthen the squad.
“If we sign for the sake of signing, it’s better that we don’t sign any more because we don’t need to sign players just for the sake of it,” Maresca said ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Wolves. However, he admitted that the club is still seeking a new striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson and is monitoring Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Napoli has reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea to sign Romelu Lukaku in a €30m deal plus add-ons, which could facilitate Chelsea’s pursuit of Osimhen. However, Osimhen remains a target for PSG and Saudi clubs, making negotiations complex.

Maresca also expressed the need for a new center-back as Trevoh Chalobah is up for sale, and uncertainty looms over the futures of Axel Disasi and Benoît Badiashile. Meanwhile, Marc Guiu, signed from Barcelona, may be sent on loan to gain experience.
