The operation, led by Major General VU Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, took place in the Bada/Riyawa general areas of Chikun and Igabi LGAs. Troops engaged Boderi and his fighters, successfully laying an ambush that trapped the notorious bandit and his associates.
In the ensuing firefight, Boderi resisted the troops, leading to a fierce confrontation that ultimately subdued him. Two of his associates were also neutralized in the operation. The aftermath revealed the recovery of two AK47 rifles, 300 rounds of ammunition, nine AK47 magazines, one magazine carrier, one Baofeng radio set, and five motorcycles.
Boderi Isyaku’s elimination marks a significant milestone in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry, showcasing the effectiveness of coordinated efforts by security forces. Known for his ruthlessness and cunning, Boderi had eluded capture for nearly a decade, orchestrating kidnappings, attacks on schools, and collaborating with terrorist groups.
His criminal activities spanned various areas, including Sabon Birni, Rigasa, Buruku, Gwagwada, Rijana, Kateri, Kaduna-Abuja Road, Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, Shiroro, Alawa, and Mangoro in neighboring Niger State. Boderi was responsible for high-profile kidnappings, including the abduction of 39 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, and the deadly attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy’s Afaka campus.
