Maduka University Matriculates 664 Students, Reiterates Commitment to Value-Driven Education

Maduka University, located in Ekwegbe Nsukka, has officially matriculated 664 students during its second matriculation ceremony, reaffirming its dedication to delivering value-based education that transcends borders.

Addressing the matriculating students, the Chancellor and Founder, Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi, underscored the urgent need for an education system that actively responds to societal demands. He declared that the outdated notion of universities as isolated ivory towers is obsolete. “Education grounded in values extends beyond the confines of the classroom,” Dr. Onyishi asserted. “It’s about cultivating a learning atmosphere anchored in universal principles and geared toward addressing real-world challenges.”

Dr. Onyishi explained that the academic programs at Maduka University are intentionally crafted to address the persistent flaws within Nigeria’s educational system. This, he said, underpins the university’s resolve to offer a unique blend of academic excellence and entrepreneurial mindset — a defining element of its mission.

“We uphold a culture of transparency, strive for excellence, and are committed to building an environment that fosters transformative learning,” he said.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ogbulogo, described the university’s educational model as “learner-focused,” tailored to meet the aspirations of its students. He praised the institution’s academic staff and emphasized the interactive and life-changing nature of classroom engagements.

Professor Ogbulogo revealed that Maduka University currently offers programs in its College of Medicine and six academic schools: Health Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Law, Business and Social Sciences, and Engineering and Computing. He expressed gratitude to the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other regulatory bodies for their unwavering support, noting that every program launched had received full accreditation.

“In just 17 months of academic activity, we have recorded nearly 1,300 student enrollments,” he said. “This impressive growth speaks volumes about the confidence placed in our educational approach. While it’s still early, the signs are encouraging.”

He thanked parents and sponsors for their trust and congratulated the newly admitted students. “We are privileged to host some of the brightest young minds, ready to embrace leadership and accountability,” he added.

Delivering the matriculation lecture, former President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, commended the institution’s remarkable progress, describing its rapid development as “nothing short of phenomenal,” especially considering Nigeria’s current economic landscape.

“Establishing a university in these times is an extraordinary achievement,” he noted. “The pace of growth, the caliber of personnel, and the world-class infrastructure underscore Dr. Onyishi’s deep commitment and selfless vision. It’s clear he is driven by a desire to elevate society.”

Chief Nwodo voiced concern over the deteriorating quality of education in Nigeria, but found hope in emerging institutions like Maduka University. “It saddens me that today’s students are not afforded the quality of education we once enjoyed. But here, at Maduka University, you have modern buildings, steady power and water supply, and dedicated lecturers — all fueled by a founder determined to leave society better than he met it.”

He encouraged the students to fully embrace the opportunity before them, urging them to use their time at the university to develop intellectually and personally. “The next few years will shape your skills and worldview,” he said. “Let knowledge guide your decisions, fuel innovation, and expand your potential. As you embark on this academic journey, commit to intentional, meaningful learning.”
