Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), who was apprehended by the Police in Benin, has been released on bail.
The arrest occurred following an alleged petition from the office of the Inspector General of Police in Abuja, prompting his detention in Benin City, Edo State.
A statement by the party’s national youth leader claimed that Abure was subjected to brutality and robbery by thugs, resulting in the loss of $75,000 and other assets valued at N4.9 million.

Abure attributes the attack to his allegiance to the factional acting national chairman of the party, Lamidi Apapa.
While Abure has been released, the Edo State chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi, and the state youth leader remain in custody, though their release is anticipated.
In addressing party supporters post-release, Abure expressed gratitude for their solidarity and emphasized the ongoing challenges faced by those advocating for change.
He highlighted the need to persist in fighting for the people’s welfare, citing economic hardships under the current administration as evidence.
