LP considers legal actions against Apapa, Arabambi, over media criticism of Obi

The Labour Party, led by Julious Abure, and the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign, strongly criticized statements attributed to Abayomi Arabambi, representing Lamidi Apapa’s supporters, accusing their Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, of wrongdoing.

During a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Chief Spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, and the Labour Party National Legal Adviser, expressed their intention to explore legal action against Arabambi and his associates, whom they labelled as “impostors.”

Tanko highlighted the disturbing trend of character assassination by certain individuals in the media, with Dr. Abayomi Arabambi being a prominent figure. He pointed out that Arabambi falsely identifies himself as a member and Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party when he is not a member.

The party officials clarified that previous Supreme Court judgments had settled disputes within the Labour Party, dispelling any fictionalization or crisis. Nonetheless, certain media outlets continued to associate expelled non-members with the party, tarnishing its image.

Tanko noted that both Chief Lamidi Apapa and Abayomi Arabambi wrongfully utilized the party’s name while failing to offer any positive remarks about Peter Obi, the party’s Presidential candidate.

He questioned the authenticity of their claims to be members of the Labour Party, as they consistently criticized Peter Obi more vehemently than their alleged sponsors.

Tanko called for media outlets to blacklist these individuals for wearing a “devil’s coat” while speaking on a “saint’s platform.” He emphasized that neither they nor their family members had supported Peter Obi, suggesting that they should find another cause to pursue.

The press conference also referred to Peter Obi’s recent advisory statement to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to address the certificate controversy. Tanko described this as a patriotic recommendation rooted in national development.

Regarding the false claims made by Arabambi and others, Tanko debunked allegations about Obi impersonating his deceased senior brother. He pointed out that Obi’s senior brother was still alive and clarified their educational backgrounds.

Additionally, Tanko mentioned a recent testimony from Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, the Pope’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic. The Archbishop affirmed Peter Obi’s long-standing commitment to caring for society, citing a personal experience from the 1970s when Obi displayed kindness and generosity. He encouraged Peter Obi to continue this compassionate approach in serving the nation.
