In a recent development, Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command in Benin City.
The arrest is based on allegations of premeditated attempted murder and other infractions. The action followed a petition by the LP Youth Leader, Comrade Eragbe Anselm Aphimia, who reported a violent attack against him on December 29, 2023.
In the petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Comrade Anselm detailed the events leading to the incident. He arrived in Benin City on December 28, 2023, as part of an official delegation to organize party congresses and supervise the sale of nomination forms, in line with INEC guidelines. An alleged ambush orchestrated by individuals claiming to provide transportation and accommodation resulted in a violent attack just outside the hotel gates.
