The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has taken into custody a 55-year-old lawyer, Sunday Ebong, for reportedly assaulting his wife. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko MacDon, made this disclosure in a statement issued in Uyo on Monday.
MacDon revealed that the arrest followed advice from the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy, emphasizing the severity of the situation. According to MacDon, the arrest was necessary due to the disturbing video that surfaced showing the suspect inflicting severe injuries on his wife, indicating a habitual pattern of violence against her over the years.
In the statement, MacDon highlighted the police’s responsibility in safeguarding lives, maintaining order, and preventing the continuation of such human rights violations. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, acted swiftly on the advice, ordering the immediate arrest of the suspect to avert a potential escalation leading to dire consequences.
