The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to film and skit creators who use its uniforms and kits without permission in their productions.
The management of LASTMA has declared such unauthorized use of its uniforms, kits, and accessories as illegal and has threatened legal action against offenders.
In a press statement signed by LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, it was revealed that the General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, expressed his dissatisfaction with the portrayal of the institution in movies and comedies. Oreagba specifically highlighted the depiction of LASTMA officers in Nollywood film ‘Gbogbo Lowo’ and other spoof movies on social media platforms.

Oreagba pointed out that the use of LASTMA uniforms without adhering to Section 79 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which criminalizes such unauthorized use, is a matter of concern. He emphasized that filmmakers and skit creators need to obtain a permit before portraying LASTMA officers in their productions.
The statement by Taofiq further elaborated that Oreagba called for sobriety in filmmaking and stricter control over the possession and use of LASTMA uniforms to prevent their spread in society. The management of LASTMA has urged organizations like the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTA) to caution their members against using LASTMA uniforms without proper authorization, warning that legal actions will be taken against anyone caught doing so.
This move by LASTMA underscores the importance of respecting the intellectual property and official uniforms of government agencies. It aims to maintain the integrity and reputation of LASTMA while ensuring that its uniforms are not misused or misrepresented in various media forms.
