The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has pledged to ensure the safety of #EndSARS protesters as they marked the third anniversary of the movement at Lekki Toll Gate.
Speaking to journalists at the memorial event, Owohunwa assured protesters that their safety was guaranteed and that they had the right to exercise their freedom and franchise. He stressed that the police respected and protected these rights, and it was their responsibility to ensure that the protesters were not exposed to any danger during their activities.
The Commissioner of Police also emphasized the need for a balance to maintain public interest, security, and peace, stating that the police would not allow any actions that jeopardized the peace and security of the Lekki area and the state. In his commitment to this balance, Owohunwa aimed to guarantee the safety of both the protesters and the state.

Meanwhile, Adebowale Adedeyo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, and other Nigerians marked the third anniversary of the #EndSARS movement at Lekki Toll Gate amid a significant police presence. The Lagos State Police Command had previously warned against gatherings at the tollgate, but the event proceeded with police oversight.
The #EndSARS protest, initially a call to end police brutality and abuse of power by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), gained momentum and led to the disbandment of SARS by the Nigerian government. The protest later turned violent as some took advantage of the situation, resulting in the burning of police stations and attacks on officers and citizens. The movement’s culmination on October 20 saw the Nigerian Army’s intervention, resulting in casualties among the youth protesters.
