Kidnapped Catholic priest regains freedom in Enugu

Reverend Marcellinus Okide, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu’s priest who was abducted on Sunday, September 17, 2023, has been released.

Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie, the Chancellor and Secretary of the Diocese, confirmed that Fr. Okide regained his freedom at approximately 8 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

In an official statement, the Chancellor expressed gratitude for Fr. Okide’s safe return and thanked everyone for their prayers during this challenging time.

Fr. Okide was kidnapped while traveling along the Eke-Egede-Affa Road in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, en route to his parish, St. Mary Amofia-Agu Affa Parish in Udi LGA.

Alongside the priest, six other travelers were also abducted on the same road.

However, the statement did not disclose whether the N100 million ransom demanded by the abductors was paid before the priest was set free.
