Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has vigorously defended President Bola Tinubu against allegations of certificate forgery. In a lengthy tweet posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Keyamo expressed his confidence that the Supreme Court would ultimately find Tinubu not guilty of the charges.
Keyamo argued that Tinubu’s innocence is clear, emphasizing that Chicago State University (CSU) itself stated that it does not issue certificates directly, but instead, vendors do so on behalf of the institution. He maintained that any allegations of forgery would only be meaningful if the vendor who issued Tinubu’s replacement certificate denies its authenticity.
The statement read, “Addressing the controversies that arose this week, after the Chicago State University (CSU) revealed Tinubu’s academic records, Keyamo insisted that ‘you cannot allege or prove forgery except the purported maker of the document denies its authenticity.'”

Keyamo, a seasoned lawyer with over 30 years of experience in criminal trials, underscored the legal principle that forgery allegations require either the document’s maker to deny its authenticity or uncontradicted evidence from a forensic report proving deliberate alteration or concoction by the person who issued it.
Applying this principle to the case, Keyamo highlighted that as long as CSU openly stated that they do not issue replacement certificates but that vendors do so on their behalf, the noise surrounding the forgery allegations remains futile until the specific vendor responsible for issuing Tinubu’s certificate denies its authenticity.
Keyamo concluded by asserting Tinubu’s innocence and readiness to face any legal challenges, while also acknowledging the retirement of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from politics.
This defense comes amid heightened political tension and allegations in Nigeria as the country approaches its next presidential election.
