In a relentless effort to quell the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) terrorists in Imo State, the troops of Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA II conducted a successful clearance operation on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
This operation, aimed at capturing the fleeing terrorists responsible for violence, extortion, and intimidation in the region, yielded significant results.
During the simultaneous clearance operations along Ihioma – Ihittenansa in Orsu Local Government Area and Okigwe – Umulolo in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, troops encountered the terrorists who, outmatched by superior firepower, fled into nearby forests with gunshot wounds. The recovery of various items was a testament to the terrorists’ presence and criminal activities in the region. Notable recoveries from the operation in Umulolo included two locally made guns, ammunition, a PKT machine gun barrel, and a significant discovery – a big locally made Rocket Propelled Launcher known as “Ogbunigwe.” Additionally, IED making materials, three CCTV cameras, two laptops with chargers, eight mobile phones, three pairs of boots, camouflage shorts, two motorcycles, and a beret were also confiscated.
Furthermore, three shrines used by the terrorists for fortification were destroyed to eliminate their sources of power.
On the clearance operations and fighting patrols along Road Ihioma – Ihittenansa in Orsu LGA, troops encountered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) but continued to pursue IPOB/ESN terrorists who had fled into the forests of Lilu and Mother Valleys with gunshot wounds. In this engagement, two CCTV cameras carefully concealed at a strategic point were recovered, along with IED-making materials. The terrorists were successfully cleared from the EKETUTU market area.
Operation UDO KA II remains committed to combatting ritual killings, cannibalism, kidnapping for ransom, and extortion of hardworking and law-abiding citizens. The terrorists targeted in these operations, many of whom had escaped from Owerri jailbreaks, are being manipulated by criminals abroad to sow chaos and insecurity in the South-East region.
The Nigerian Army and law enforcement agencies call upon all well-meaning citizens of the South-East region to provide timely, credible, and reliable information to assist in ending the prevailing insecurity.
The collective efforts of law-abiding citizens are crucial in ensuring that these terrorists do not dictate the course of life in the region known as Alaigbo. Together, the people of the South-East region can bring an end to this wave of violence and insecurity plaguing their communities.
