The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, on Wednesday, bemoaned the shortage of medical personnel across health facilities in Nigeria.
Prof. Okolie equally noted that in order to forestall such ugly trend in the nursing profession, ESUT has started collaborating with the Enugu State Government to increase the admission quota for Nursing Sciences Department in the university.
He made the disclosure when the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, TOPREC, and Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, ARCON, came for accreditation of Urban and Regional Planning, and Architecture Departments of ESUT.

While equally bemoaning the harsh economic realities in Nigeria, especially as it affects the standard of living of the people, he enjoined other Vice Chancellors to judiciously utilize funds coming into their universities for the development of their institutions.
He urged the professional bodies to be partners in building the Institution by constructively reviewing the programmes to guarantee excellence in the training of the students.
The Vice Chancellor pointed out that the Management of the University under his watch had insisted that all the academic staff should belong and register with their respective professional bodies or be denied their promotion.

The chairmen of TOPREC, and ARCON accreditation teams, Prof. Bolanle Wahab and Prof. C .B Chukwudi, respectively, while addressing the ESUT Management, said they were in ESUT to look at the programmes and check if they were in line with the standards of the professional bodies.
They enjoined the departments concerned to put all the cards on the table to guarantee seamless exercises.
While giving his vote of thanks, the ESUT Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu, informed the teams that the University Management had been making conscious efforts to provide needed facilities for all the programmes being run in the University.
The teams were received by other principal and key officers of the University including the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Chike Nwoha; the University Librarian, Dr. Jacinta Eze, ESUT Bursar, Dr Augustine Ojeh and the Director of Academic Planning of the University, Professor Chike Anibeze among others.
