Japa: Welders, carpenters, plumbers, others needed in Canada

Canada has extended an invitation to skilled workers, including professionals like carpenters, plumbers, and welders, from various countries, which has further intensified the trend of people leaving their home countries (‘japa’ syndrome).

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently announced that they have introduced an immigration pathway specifically for skilled workers with expertise in carpentry, plumbing, and welding.

Canadian officials have taken this step to address the growing demand for talent and key positions that contribute to the country’s economic growth.

As a result, they are prioritizing the invitation of skilled newcomers who possess experience in trades. Marc Miller, the IRCC Minister, emphasized the importance of addressing the shortage of skilled trade workers in Canada, highlighting the role of the construction sector.

Canada’s Express Entry (EE) system has been modified to offer a streamlined and efficient route for individuals with critical expertise, particularly in skilled trades.

These specialized selection rounds will continue throughout the year, in addition to general invitation rounds. More details about these changes will be announced in the coming weeks. The new approach recognizes the significance of skilled trades workers and aims to attract more of these talented individuals to Canada.

The primary option is through the Express Entry system, which serves as the main pathway for skilled workers in the economic class. To be eligible for the entry, meeting the requirements of either the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class is crucial.
