The Electoral Institute’s Training Department has taken proactive steps to prepare Electoral Officers, Assistant Electoral Officers (Operations), and Heads of Legal Departments for the upcoming Imo State Governorship Election, scheduled for November 11th, 2023.
The training Programme, which began on September 25th, 2023, aims to equip these officials with essential skills and knowledge to effectively manage critical electoral processes.

The participants in the training program are primarily composed of Electoral Officers, Assistant Electoral Officers (Operations), and Heads of Legal Departments.
The training commenced with participant registration and opening formalities at 10 am. Prof. Sylvia Uchenna Agu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner representing the Chairman of the Board of Electoral Institute, welcomed the participants and emphasized the significance of the training in enhancing the professionalism of election officers.
Prof. Agu highlighted that the training would elevate the managerial skills and competencies of participants, focusing on critical aspects of election guidelines and regulations, such as voter accreditation, voting procedures, collation, and results transmission. The Administrative Secretary, Dr. Fidelis Uguru, represented the REC Imo at the event.
Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, the Director-General of the Electoral Institute, echoed the importance of the training and emphasized the pivotal roles played by Electoral Officers and Assistant Electoral Officers in the electoral process.
He explained that the training would cover topics on strategic management, voter education, legal frameworks for elections, ICT-driven innovations, and key activities within the electoral cycle. Dr. Idris encouraged participants to maximize this valuable opportunity.
The Director of Training, Dr. Binta Mohammed Kasim, delivered a goodwill address, urging participants to view the training as a unique opportunity to enhance their skills as election managers at the local government level.
The five-day technical training program covers various modules, including strategic management, voter education, and the recruitment, training, and deployment of registration election personnel. It aims to empower electoral officials with the knowledge and skills required to ensure a smooth and successful 2023 Governorship Election in Imo State.
