In preparation for the upcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has revealed a key aspect of the electoral process.
He stated that the election results will be uploaded on INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV). This decision aligns with the commission’s commitment to transparency and the use of electronic means for accreditation and results collation, as mandated by the law.
Yakubu announced this during a mock accreditation exercise in Kogi State, emphasizing that INEC will follow the legally prescribed methods for the electoral process. He urged registered voters to visit the IReV portal to view the results of the mock accreditation, underscoring the importance of adhering to the law.

Addressing concerns about security, Yakubu confirmed that INEC is actively collaborating with security agencies. A high-level meeting, co-chaired by the INEC Chairman and the National Security Adviser, is scheduled to discuss security arrangements for the elections in the three states.
Preparations for handling large crowds at Polling Unit 009 in Ganaja were also discussed. This polling unit has 13,000 registered voters, making it one of the most densely populated in Nigeria. INEC plans to organize the voter register alphabetically by surnames to facilitate a smoother voting process. Additionally, contingency plans are in place to address potential flooding, ensuring that voters can cast their ballots without hindrance.
The proactive measures outlined by INEC aim to provide a secure, efficient, and transparent process for voters during the upcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states.
