In the wake of the explosion that rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has pointed fingers at illegal miners. The governor, after a visit to the explosion site, revealed that preliminary investigations by security agencies suggested that explosive devices stored by illegal miners caused the blast. Governor Makinde assured the public that ongoing investigations would reveal those responsible, and anyone found guilty would face legal consequences.
The explosion resulted in significant damage to houses in the vicinity, prompting swift responses from first responders and relevant state agencies. Governor Makinde disclosed that the incident led to two fatalities and left 77 individuals injured. Most of the injured had already received treatment and been discharged.
Offering condolences to the families of the deceased, Governor Makinde announced that the government would cover the medical bills of all victims. Additionally, temporary accommodation would be arranged for those whose houses suffered damage, with support provided for their rebuilding efforts.
