The Inspector General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning to police officers across the country, urging them to uphold the integrity of the police force and refrain from engaging in corrupt practices.
Egbetokun conveyed this message during a decoration ceremony held in Akure, the capital of Ondo state, where he adorned 224 recently promoted officers from the Police Command in Ondo State. Represented by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Ebong Ebong of Zone 17 (comprising Ondo and Ekiti States), the IG emphasized that hard work would be acknowledged and rewarded, while misconduct would not go unpunished.
Addressing the newly promoted officers, Egbetokun urged them to take their responsibilities seriously and maintain professionalism in their duties. He emphasized the importance of adhering to a higher standard of conduct as senior police officers, treating the public with civility and respect. He highlighted the significance of understanding and respecting human rights and cautioned against corruption, which he firmly stated would not be tolerated within the police force.

Egbetokun underscored the necessity of staying updated with legal knowledge and effectively utilizing communication skills, especially in the age of information and technology. He advised the officers to reflect on their actions and decisions, ensuring that they contribute positively to the image of the police force.
The IG noted that while 73 of the newly promoted officers have been confirmed, the rest are yet to receive confirmation. He further stressed the officers’ role as mirrors to their junior colleagues and the need for them to set an example through their behavior and conduct.
In response, ASP Tobi Arowojolu, one of the newly promoted officers, expressed the group’s unwavering commitment to the police force and their determination to carry out their duties diligently, adhering to the principles of professionalism and integrity.
