Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the last general elections, has refuted allegations of reaching an agreement with President Bola Tinubu regarding the Supreme Court verdict on the Kano State governorship election.
Following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Abba Kabir Yusuf, the NNPP candidate, as the duly elected governor of Kano, Kwankwaso dismissed claims of any secret agreement. In response to the accusations, he clarified that he has not reached an agreement with anyone, emphasizing his commitment to the political process.
Kwankwaso and Tinubu share a political history, having been contemporaries since their days in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and later co-founding the All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso highlighted their shared political journey, asserting that they participated together in the struggles and formation of the APC.

Addressing the role of the NNPP in Kano State, now governed by Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kwankwaso emphasized that the party’s role would be advisory in nature. He recognized that as the governor, Yusuf should be allowed to prove his worth, with the responsibility of success or failure resting on his shoulders.
In conclusion, Kwankwaso highlighted the importance of time in revealing the outcomes of political developments, and he acknowledged that only time would tell whether any collaboration with the government would occur.
