Rev. Fr. Paul Obayi, the Spiritual Director of the Okunerere Adoration Ministry in Nsukka, Enugu State, has announced his impending departure from the Catholic Church.
This decision follows alleged disputes with Most Rev. Godfrey Onah, the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese.
Fr. Obayi cites perceived oppression from the Catholic Church, including the forceful takeover of his properties, as the primary reason for his departure.

In a widely circulated video, Fr. Obayi expressed his deep love for the church, the Nsukka Catholic community, and its clergy. However, he claimed to have faced ongoing challenges within the church.
These issues include disagreements over land use for his adoration ministry and construction projects, such as the Marian Shrine. Fr. Obayi also mentioned being prevented from attending Charismatic programs and accused the church of hindering his efforts to preach abroad.
In light of these grievances and the ongoing discord, Fr. Obayi stated that he will soon sever ties with the Catholic Church, asserting that he cannot continue in an environment where he feels stifled and oppressed.
