…As Governor Mbah lauds Speaker Abbas for empathetic leadership
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, on Tuesday, handed over an N18 million cheque to the Enugu State Government as financial support for victims of the tragic petrol tanker explosion that occurred on January 25 at Ugwu Onyeama along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, claiming several lives.
Describing the tragedy as a national loss, Speaker Abbas said the donation reflects the House’s commitment to standing with Nigerian communities during difficult times. He emphasized that such support aligns with the House’s tradition of showing solidarity in the face of adversity.
Representing the Speaker was the Enugu State Caucus in the Green Chamber, led by Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, and comprising Hon. Matins Oke, Hon. Dennis Agbo, Hon. Mark Obetta, Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, and Hon. Chimaobi Atu. The delegation praised Governor Peter Mbah for his exemplary leadership and swift response to the disaster, particularly his efforts to comfort bereaved families and assist the injured.
“On behalf of the Speaker, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Government and people of Enugu State over the Ugwu Onyeama tanker explosion. We commend your efforts to support victims, and we hope this N18 million cheque helps further alleviate the burdens faced by those affected. The Speaker remains committed to standing by you,” Hon. Nnaji stated.
In his response, Governor Mbah expressed heartfelt appreciation to Speaker Abbas and the Enugu Reps Caucus for their compassion and solidarity, assuring that the funds would be used responsibly.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Enugu State, I thank the Speaker and the House for this meaningful gesture. I remember his call of concern when the incident occurred, and now he has demonstrated his support in both word and deed.
“This N18 million donation will significantly help ease the suffering of victims and their families. I assure you that it will be disbursed transparently and fairly,” the governor affirmed.
